Yeah right. Why don't we have any information on what led to the capture of these "terrorists"?
"We are taking the step of preventing liquids from getting into the cabin to give us time to make adjustments"
I thought it was foiled? Obviously, the screening measures they have in place were working.
Mothers tasted baby food in front of airport security guards to prove it contained no liquid explosives. Liquids and gels were banned from flights. Travelers repacked their luggage in airports, stowing all but the most necessary items in the hold.
First, they confiscated my tweezers. Then they make me take off my shoes. Now I can't carry shampoo, lotion and toothpaste, or a bottle of water. WTF.
Personal conveniences must be sacrificed for national security.
I guarantee national security would be preserved if we stop occupying foreign countries and aiding Israel with weapons of mass destruction.
"This nation is at war with Islamic fascists who will use any means to destroy those of us who love freedom, to hurt our nation," Bush declared.
It's more like, we're at war with people who we fucked over for years and years, depriving them of their freedom and destorying their nations. Bush and his cronies are the biggest terrorists and fascists I know.

Lieberman the Loser
... or is he?
US Senator Joe Lieberman concedes the democratic primary election to challenger Ned Lamont and announces that he will run as an independent candidate in November 2008.
I mean, did he seriously think he was going to win the DEMOCRATIC primaries? It's true that democratics and republicans are the same in many ways... but this mofo was much further (FAR) right. He's like one of those evangelical christian republicans, but instead, he's jewish. I guess that would make him a zionist.
If he was truly a democrat, he would have cowardly and quietly supported the war efforts in the beginning, and now denounce it with a moral indignation (sigh... i belong to a party filled with pussies and punks). Rather, Lieberman still rallies for the war, and with vigor. With raw zionist vigor. So how can he call himself a Democrat? I guess he didn't read the memo.
Could this be an elaborate plan for him to leave the democratic party and still save face? As an "independent" who wasn't ousted by his party, he could still win the votes of conservative democrats, and now garnish support of republicans. And he can finally come out of the closet and be the neo-conservative republican he always wanted to be. It could be a brilliant plan, especially if the little troll can pull it off. I shudder to think about it.
But for tonight, I drink and smoke to Lieberman's loss. Burp.

Another dumb presidential move
The White House announced today that they plan to deploy 6000 National Guard troops along the US/Mexico border to deter illegal immigration, even though Bush still claims to support a guest work program and a path of legalization for undocumented immigrants currently residing in the US.
Members of both parties have expressed concern about a National Guard deployment to the border, saying that it might strain military resources already depleted by the Iraq war and that it appears to be politically motivated.
Well, of course.
This reminds me of how WRONG some Bush proponents have been about how Bush may not be bright, but he is a man who stands by his word. Well, explain why Bush purports to support immigrants, yet he makes this move to pander to anti-immigrant Republicans... seems like some flip-flopping to me...
Here is a SNL video of what could have been if Bush was not elected in 2000... (thanks KimCheeFarmer!)

Thoughts about the soaring gas prices
I heard a special report on NPR this morning that featured a family who spoke about changes they intend to make in their lives due to the increased gas prices. The father is going to replace his SUV for a smaller economical car. He also decided to take his son to a local skating rink for hockey practice rather than driving 20 miles to some professional skating rink.
Although I'm not in favor of these oil companies profitting from our dependency on their product, people are changing their oil-dependent lifestyles as a result. And that's a good thing, I think.

Oscar hits and misses

I didn't watch the Oscars because it's usually so damn boring. Although, I'm kinda bummed I missed Jon Stewart, who I absolutely adore. And of course, I heard he was funny.
Nevertheless, I participated in my office pool. $10 a pop. I didn't hit all the categories, but did better than I thought. Well, actually, I knew I would do well. I'm a good gambler. It's in my genes. Hopefully, I will have my hands on the winning pot tomorrow morning.
Hugh highlights: Ang Lee won Best Director (YES!); Philip Seymour Hoffman won Best Actor; Reese Witherspoon won Best Actress; Rachel Weisz won Best Supporting Actress. These individuals were really outstanding and deserve the statuette.
Deep disappointments: How in the world did Crash win Best Picture? I mean, it's not a bad movie but it's not great either, especially when compared to Brokeback, Capote, Munich and Good Bye, Good Luck... all of which are way better. Also, because Crash's depiction of Asians/American Americans absolutely sucked dick with its one-dimensional image of my people, this movie should not have won the Oscar. Paul Haggis must have sucked some academy dicks to get his statuette. Dammit. I knew I should have written a letter to the Times about how poorly Asians were depicted in this movie...
Read one critic's opinion why Crash prevailed over the other more superior movies in the same category. It's right on.
I'm also upset that Paradise Now did not win... but I have to admit that I chose Tsotsi on my pool sheet... c'mon now, I don't fuck with mah money.

Alvin Ailey Knows Love

The Alvin Ailey Dance Theater performed at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion this past week. It's my fourth time watching this group, and they simply lift my spirit each time. LA Times staff writer Lewis Segal wrote a negative review of the dance company in last Friday's paper, calling the new material an "overkill".
Lewis is so so wrong. What he describes as "...a blur of lighting and costume changes, as well as hard-sell dance riffs galore, that no concept or theme survived..." is what I consider a successful integration of modern and contemporary urban dance. I was so excited to see classic ballet techinques infuse with everyday dance club moves, making normal dance steps seem so stunningly unique and, conversely, making professional modern dance techniques seem accessible.
Lewis continues to describe the performance as "...an aggressive fusillade of technique, often right in the audience's teeth, Broadway style. And all that love stuff coming out of the loudspeakers soon seemed a self-righteous, manipulative pretext for hot but empty showpiece dancing." But isn't love an aggressive fusillade of techniques, right-in-your teeth, Broadway style? Far from empty, that's how I like my lovin'.
In celebration of African American hertiage month, the dance troupe dedicated their week's performances to Coretta Scott King.

Ode to the Golden Globes
Here is my tribute to the Golden Globes, even though I didn't see it and never watch this crap, unless it's the Grammy's or MTV Music Awards.

Scarlett Johansson didn't even win a globe, but that didn't stop you pervs from circulating her pictures over 500 times via the world wide web. Perhaps because she came with her own globes??
(I'm just talking shit. Scarlett is beautiful and did a phenomenal job playing a sexy American mistress of the protagonist in Match Point. You should see this movie if you haven't. It's a disturbing story by one of my favorites, Woody Allen... and Scarlett is HOT in it.)
You go, boy!
And finally, to commemorate Memoirs of a Geisha... which I haven't seen and do not plan to see. Not even on video. I would like to support the Asian performers, especially the talented and lovely Zhang Ziyi and Gong Li, but I can't. The story is so gross... why would I want to see some white man's racist and misogynist fantasy on the big screen? It's the same shit. I propose that Hollywood produces a fantasy of mine -- a gorgeous white man with lots of money falls madly in love with me while I continuously ignore him. He finally decides he cannot live without my love and kills himself, bequeathing all his riches and wealth to me. I squander the money on designer clothes and accessories, drugs and mah jong. When the money is all gone, I marry the local baker Mr. Wong's son and live happily ever after, with nary a thought of him.
Oh, and here's a friendly public service announcement: Japanese women cannot physically have blue eyes. It's just not possible.

But here's a geisha I would be down with... our local hero, Bobby Lee.
Check out his hilarious skit.
